Homework for Tuesday, May 28
  • OLD READING
    • Read Ch. 12 (all sections) on Boolean Algebra and Logic Circuits.
  • NEW READING
    • Read Ch. 13 Sections 13.2 & 13.3 on FSMs and FSAs.
  • WRITTEN HOMEWORK
    • Complete Homework 6 problems # 5,  7, and 8.  (#6 is optional)
    • Demonstrate that NOR is a universal gate by showing how to use it to create the NOT, OR, and AND functions.
  • DON'T CARE INPUTS -- Two of the K-maps on the K-Map Handout have 'd's in some of the squares. And Homework 6 Problem 7g refers to "don't cares". As Chapter 12 of your text explained, these represent input combinations that should/will never occur, so it does not matter whether they map to 0s or 1s. When you do your K-maps, all 1's must be in at least one circled group and all 0s must not be in any circled groups. It does not matter if a 'd' is in a circled group or not. So, if it helps you to get bigger groups for your 1's to include some of the 'd's, do so. If a particular 'd' does not help you get any bigger group of 1's, leave it out of the groups.
  • Just for Fun ~ Complete Lady & Tiger puzzle 12 ("The Fourth Day").
